League Cricket - the Countdown is on!

03 May 2018

Goodness gracious me! It’s felt like a big break since we last played cricket, especially given the harsh winter – there was more than just a touch of frost on the ground on several occasions.  Last week may have become a casualty of the weather but Tuesday night brought the players peak practice conditions and thanks to a big train-ing session, our gladiators are ready for action.

The A Team are hoping to start the season in top gear away at Harpenden this Saturday.  Sadly, we start the season as a one Sam-brookside with Harry in charge of the family fortunes as big brother Tom continues his recovery from injury but we are delighted to welcome back Simon Walker who spent more than 80 days around the world last year.

The 2nd team are hosting Hitchin and they can’t afford to coast as they start their season.  Hopefully the batters will be in good form so it’s not too much of a fast show… hopefully a good performance will help to avoid a rage-fuelled hole in the wall too.

Fixture fans may have been expecting a preview of our 3rd XI fixture but boy, have I got news for you.  We tried our best in terms of keeping up appearances but unfortunately we lost.  Availability has scuppered our hopes and sadly there will be no game on.  Hopefully we can get 33 players into changing rooms next week.

On Sunday it is the Dave Percy Memorial Day and it is looking like it will be absolutely fabulous.  If you are looking for a Sunday brunch, there will a masterchef or two on the BBQ throughout the day so plenty of food and drink will be available. A junior game starts things off in the morning followed by a 6-a-side tournament throughout the afternoon… I wonder what the match of the day will be?  Make sure you come and grab yourself a seat in the grandstand - it’s free so you’ll have to agree that the price is right.

So that is the weekend that lies ahead.  But it’s question time… How many TV shows can you telly addicts spot?!
