Match report Kings Langley 1st XI claimed a first victory of the season in emphatic style with a convincing win away at Sawbridgworth.
Having won the toss and elected to bat, Kings were reduced to 5-1 with the early loss of Jack Stokes but some good strokeplay from Jay Williams (24) got the score moving as George Langston joined him at the crease. When he eventually fell it was 47-2 in the 13th over. Liberty Maher joined George at the crease and the young pair put on a fantastic partnership of 89 over the next 24 overs. Langston had brought up the first competitive half century of the season during the partnership and Maher was the next wicket to fall, departing for a well put together 41. This brought Ricky Mohammed to the crease and he was in aggressive mood from the start. The pair proceeded to put on an unbeaten stand of 91 in the remaining 13 overs, George finishing on 92 not out, Ricky Mohammed on 53 not out and the team 227-3.

In reply, the home side already faced a tall order to chase down 228 and it was made instantly harder as stand-in skipper bowled the opener first ball of the innings. Liberty Maher (1-13) shared the new ball and picked up an early wicket too with a help of a spectacular diving catch from George Langston and when a calamitous run out followed soon after the hosts were 14-3 off 10 overs. George wouldn't be kept out the action for long and claimed the 4th wicket of the innings as part of a 6-over spell of 1-15. A couple of partnerships put the brakes on Kings Langley's quest for victory as the home side's opener scored a hard-hitting 90. Ben Joyce returned to claim the 5th wicket of the innings before Jay Williams took his chance to shine, claiming 4-7 in a second spell of 4 overs and 4-44 altogether. Following this spell victory seemed inevitable and Ricky Mohammed had the last man caught in the deep as Sawbridgeworth subsided to 156 all out.

A 71 run win and 30 crucial league points to get Kings Langley's season up and running at last.
