Kings Langley Cricket Club 1st XI v Old Albanian I on Sat 01 Jun 2019 at 12
Kings Langley Cricket Club Lost by 34 runs

Match report Kings Langley 1st XI endured a frustrating day on The Common on Saturday as they just short of a challenging target of 221, falling to a 34 run defeat against Old Albanian.
Old Albanian won the toss and chose to bat first on a hot afternoon. The hosts made the perfect start, with captain Harry Sambrook getting the opener caught behind for a duck in the first over. However, it would prove to be a solitary moment of joy as a match-defining partnership of 149 was then built over the next 37 overs, the other opener would finish unbeaten on 110 at the end of 50 overs. When George Langston eventually struck twice in two balls in the 37th over the score was 149-3 and such a solid base was set that a score over 200 seemed inevitable. Andrew Burnell (2-37) also struck twice in quick succession and when Langston claimed his 3rd and final wicket (3-23) the visitors had been reduced to 157-6 in the 39th over. OAs managed to halt the collapse with a 7th wicket partnership of 44 and despite Ben Joyce claiming 2 late wickets they would finish on 220-8.

In reply, Kings Langley got off to a slow and steady start as OAs bowled tightly. The regular loss of wickets meant that the hosts were 47-3 off 19 and then 86-6 off 32, leaving an unlikely 135 off 18 overs. Paul Ashford (21) and Tom Sambrook (20) had offered hard-fought resistance during that time. Ricky Mohammed (28) and Ben Joyce combined to give the home side hope as they started to up the run rate as OAs showed signs of tiredness in hot conditions. Their partnership of 64 in 11 overs had reduced the target to 71 off 8 overs. Despite Ben Joyce finding the boundary with increasing ease on his way to 60 not out, there was just too much to do and the team would eventually be all out for 186 in the 49th over, 34 runs short of their target.

However, it was a hard-fought team effort with a number of solid contributions and 14 bonus points leave them in 7th place on 65 points after 4 games heading into their match against 6th-placed Hitchin next weekend.
