Knebworth Park v Kings Langley Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 31 Aug 2019 at 1.00
Kings Langley Cricket Club Lost by 5 wickets
Match report
Kings Langley fell to a frustrating 5-wicket defeat as they travelled to bottom of the table Knebworth; a result that leaves the relegation battle wide open leading in to the final game of the season.
Kings Langley won the toss and chose to bat and compiled a total of 197-8 in their 50 overs. Brothers, Harry and Tom Sambrook were the architects of the innings as they contributed 32 and 39 respectively after the loss of the openers. "Slow and steady" was the name of the game for the majority of the innings but some late acceleration from Liberty Maher, who finished unbeaten on 49 off 33 balls, and the lower order ensured Knebworth would have a challenging total to chase.
In reply, Knebworth were in early trouble as they found themselves 24-2 in the 6th over but it would be a crucial 3rd wicket stand of 148 that would swing the game in their direction. When a run out finally ended the partnership. 3 wickets fell for 5 runs but it was too little too late. In a rain affected game that reduced the 2nd innings to 47 overs, Knebworth reached their 'target' in the 42nd over. The rules insisted that they bat on, but no further wickets were lost as they finished on 190-5 from their overs and duly claimed the win with a superior run rate.
It leaves things tight at the bottom of Division One going into the last game of the season. Kings Langley find themselves in the relegation zone in 9th place, just 2 points behind 8th and with just 15 points separating the bottom four sides.
