I'm so sorry for the delay in these reports... but it was such an exciting and monumental weekend for cricket that I have only just gathered my emotions.
It's been years in the planning, there was high drama, only 2-3 weeks ago it seemed like it would never happen and we can only assume that it will lead to a spike in grass-roots participation in the sport that we love.
Yes, that's right... this weekend THE 3RD TEAM WON!
As the 3rd team visited West Herts V, Russ Knights scored a half century and newcomer Cameron Appleyard blew the opposition away with figures of 5-8 in 6 overs. These were the key performances in a 53 run win.
As for the 1st team, they had another tough afternoon in the field with Ickleford piling on 260. Lib Maher picked up 2-34 and Harry Sambrook 2-33, before the latter anchored the chase with 48 runs. Unfortunately they fell 87 runs short.
The 2nd team also fell to defeat but made Old Elizabethans work hard for their points. Sifan Naeem was top-scorer again with 33 as they put on a total of 131 runs. Toby Hendy grabbed 2-20 and Tom Clark was in miserly form, claiming 1-11 off 10 overs but it wasn't enough to avert a 4 wicket defeat.
Full scorecards are on the website and full match reports are attached. You can also see the latest Honours Board, Top 10 batting and Top 10 bowling.
Updates on the Fantasy League and full results for the World Cup Prediction Quiz will be coming in the next few days... as will news of the all new Ashes Quiz, in advance of England men's efforts to "do the double" that begins on August 1st.
A reminder of full fixtures will follow on Friday, but please do remember the special events that are taking place on Sunday, in honour of Roy Barter.
We will have 3 teams out this Saturday.. I believe there are currently a couple of spaces with a couple of players slightly restricted by injury, so if you do fancy a game it is worth letting us know.
Have a good end to your week and we look forward to seeing lots of you at the club on Saturday/Sunday.
Many thanks
Rich
