Dramatic news alert... there may be CRICKET ahead!!
We are delighted to announce that we are now in a position to start offering the chance of groups of up to 6 to start some net training and this email will provide the details of how to access this opportunity.
Despite the ongoing changes to government guidance, we are not yet in a position to know how likely league cricket is, but our understanding is that the Herts League are having a meeting on July 1st to discuss the matter further.
As a club, we have invested in a mobile net cage that is being delivered this week. This will enable us to offer the opportunity to 'net' on the square at specific times, in the absence of other facilities due to the stalled Net Refurbishment Project.
BOOKING SYSTEM
One of the ECB requirements of offering training is to have a central booking system. Our system is called Tom Templeton!
If you would like to express interest in a Net Training Session, you should contact Tom Templeton by email (tom.templeton@yahoo.co.uk) or phone (07788 971464).
Initially, this system is limited to senior cricketers (including Junior cricketers who qualify to play Senior Cricket (14+).
JUNIOR CRICKET
All members of the Junior Section should have received an email from Junior Chair, Greg Pinchin about plans to start offering some sessions from Saturday 4th July.
Please reply to his email to express an interest in starting training. Interest will be monitored and decisions made about what can be offered safely.
If you haven't received that email, please reply to this email and I will work with Greg to make sure the email has reached everyone.
SENIOR CRICKET - DAYS AND TIMES
We are looking to offer a couple of sessions starting from this Saturday 27th June, starting at 2pm. Tom will coordinate appropriate ability groupings based on interest.
We will use this as a trial for our safety systems and protocols and hopefully be able to offer more sessions from next week onwards, with Tuesday and Thursday likely to be other evenings on offer.
HEALTH AND SAFETY MEASURES
We will need to implement the following health and safety measures:
- Maximum group size = 6
- Players from different households must maintain social distancing (2m until July 4th)
- (Clearly) if you or a member of your household is showing Coronavirus symptoms, please stay at home.
- Players should use hand sanitiser before and after session (will be provided)
- Players should come changed and ready to play, changing facilities will not be available.
- Toilets will be available - please follow instructions and one-way systems
- Ideally, bring your own ball and use throughout session. It may be sensible to 'initial' your ball (some spares will be available).
- Please be mindful of the safety of other people using the Common (nets, cones and signs will be put up to minimise risk)
- Please be prepared to help set-up and pack away net cage as needed.
FURTHER UPDATE ON FACILITIES
Clearly, based on all the updates to government guidance announced today, including the opening of pubs from July 4th, we have further work to see what we are able to offer safely.
We will continue to keep in touch regularly with details of:
- Available training sessions
- Details around opening the clubhouse facilities more widely
- League cricket
- Safety guidelines, including group size, around training sessions and nets.
I hope this email serves both as positive news and a useful update on the latest situation.
Please be mindful that we continue to be organisation entirely run by volunteers with their own work and life commitments. Whilst we would love to be able to see cricket on The Common all day and every day, we have to follow the guidelines and they do require a supervisory role by a club representative - and we have to do all we can to play our part by sticking to the guidelines as they stand at any given time.
Please do contact Tom Templeton if you are interested in getting started this Saturday with an outdoor net and we will be in touch with the available sessions for next week before the end of the weekend.
We look forward to you joining us for (possibly) the final installment of Kings Langley Quiz Club's Virtual Pub Quiz on Friday night from 8pm.
Enjoy the sunshine this week, take care and we look forward to seeing you soon.
