Senior Results Round Up - 4th & 11th June

16 Jun 2022

Apologies for the delay in recent updates... a wedding, a sickness bug and a challenging weekend on a canal boat have kept me away from my computer!

It has been an eventful two weeks for our Senior sides - with 2 wins, 4 losses, 5 half-centuries and 2 4-wicket hauls!

All match summaries are attached, alongside updated Top 10 Batting and Bowling boards.  Full results, averages and star-performances can also be found on our website and ECB Play Cricket.

There will also be a KLCC FANTASY LEAGUE update in the next couple of days - with the excitement of a cash prize to award for May's winning team!

SATURDAY 4th JUNE

The 1st XI completed a 4-wicket victory over Northchurch as they chased down 171 with 8.1 overs in hand.  CJ (3-21) and Harry Sambrook (3-37) had led the charge in restricting Northchurch before Joe Forster anchored the chase with a fantastic innings of 60.  Harry Sambrook (28*) and Jack Stokes (21*) held their nerve at the end to see the chase home, victory and 30 points emphatically sealed with a 6!

The 2nd XI claimed an emphatic victory as they amassed an impressive total of 250-5 from their 40 overs.  Paul Ashford (77) and Mark Brazier (64) used their class and experience to lead the way.  In reply it was always an unlikely chase for Boxmoor 2nd XI, but Mark Brazier (2-25) and Iain Milton (2-26) were again among the wickets to ensure that they were restricted to 150-8.  30 crucial points and a 100-run win!

The 3rd XI had a more challenging time as they continued a run of facing Saturday 1st XI's of clubs.  Edgeware visited the Stenier School and took a liking to the small boundaries as they plundered 324-7 in their 40 overs.  A lot of patience was shown by the bowlers on a testing afternoon, and Nick Lincoln emerged with a hard-fought 4-68 from his allocation.  Jamie Calvin also secured another 2 wickets for his season-tally.  In reply, Kings secured a total of 115 all out - with Luke Yates (19), Ben Templeton (17) and Jack Middleton (15) the main contributors.

SATURDAY 11th JUNE

For the first time this season, we endured a winless weekend as all three teams succumbed to their opponents - but there were still a number of impressive performances along the way.

The 1st XI, not the first time this season, were indebted to great all-round performances from Harry Sambrook and Andrew Burnell as they took on Northwood.  Kings were in the field first and conceded 239-9 in the 50 overs.  Andrew (3-29), Harry (3-47) both claimed 3 wickets, whilst Iain Milton continued his wicket-taking form with 2-21.  In reply, the regular loss of wickets meant that we always felt behind the chase.  However, Burnell (54) scored his 2nd half century of the season as they eventually fell for 202 and a 37-run defeat in the final over of the chase.

The 2nd XI enjoyed another good day with the bat, compiling 184-4 in their 40 overs.  Matt Langston (64*) also scored his 2nd half century of the season and was well supported by Tom Warrell (49) who fell 1-run short of his 2nd 50 of the season.  It was great to see young Ben Templeton in the runs too as he scored 38, having previously played for the 3rd team this season.  Unfortunately, faced by top-of-the-league Bentley Heath 2nd XI, and with a much-changed bowling attack, it wouldn't be enough.  Bentley Heath would reach their target for the loss of 6 wickets, with 6 overs in hand.  Paul Fidler (2-39) and Matt Owens (2-45) both picking up a brace of wickets.

The 3rd XI were treated to an inspired display by stand-in captain, Danny Knights, as they hosted Batchworth.  Kings were asked to bat first and were dismissed for 112 in 29.1 overs, with Danny leading the way with 40.  In reply, Batchworth were under pressure having lost a few quick wickets in the middle order but eventually steadied the ship to reach their target for the loss of 6 wickets in 20.4 overs.  Jack Gillett (1-46) and Danny Knights (4-27) were the wicket takers.
