Kings Langley Cricket Club 2nd XI v Old Elizabethans II on Sat 11 May 2019 at 1.00
Kings Langley Cricket Club Lost by 64 runs
Match report
The 2nd XI hosted Old Elizbethans I on The Common in the first encounter of Division 6B this season.
It would turn out to a frustrating day for the hosts as, despite a strong start with bat and ball, wickets tumbled and they subsided to a 64 run defeat, picking up 10 league points in the process.
Having won the toss and elected to bowl, spirits were high as the visitors fell to 16-4 in the early stages. Some patient batting was rewarded with more loose balls and slowly but surely they recovered their innings. Wickets still regularly and if given the choice at the start of the day, they would have been delighted with bowling their opponents out for 143 in 37 overs. The star of the show with the ball was Kings Langley new comer Paul Fidler who struck twice early on and twice at the end to finish with figures of 7-0-28-4. It was another newcomer, Toby Harper who would take two wickets, despite his first ball for the club being dispatched for six straight over his head! Nauman Hijaz and Duane Smith both bowled 10 economical overs and picked up 1 wicket a piece. The other highlights in the field were Min Patel executing a run out with a direct hit from square leg and Radleigh Tant leaping backwards to claim a remarkable one-handed catch.
In reply, Kings got their chase off to a calm and steady start, progressing to 42-0 in the 14th over. However, as Sifan Naeem was dismissed for what would prove to be the highest individual score of 15, the collapse started as it quickly became 50-5, 60-6 and then 79 all out. Old Elizabethans spinner, N. Parkar, claimed 6-0-26-4.
