Watton-at-Stone v Kings Langley Cricket Club 2nd XI on Sat 01 Jun 2019 at 12.00
Kings Langley Cricket Club Lost by 4 runs
Match report
Having endured a tough start to the season, Kings Langley 2nd XI came agonisingly close to a first victory since 2017 as they fell 4 runs short in a dramatic run chase at Watton-at-Stone.
The hosts won the toss and chose to bat and they would ultimately set a daunting total of 239 all out in 48.1 overs, the innings anchored by an unbeaten 104 by number 3, Tate. Kings struck early thanks to Hadi Rizvi (1-32) and Joe Forster (1-56) and Paul Fidler (3-48) combined to take the 2nd and 3rd wicket. However, the star of the show with the ball was Tom Templeton who, having spent much of May maligning the author of this report for not classing him as an all-rounder in the Fantasy League, produced an incredible spell of 8.1 - 1 - 22 - 5! The first 5 wicket haul of the season for Kings Langley!
In reply, Kings put in a brave attempt to chase down the total and the innings revolved around a fantastic knock from Sifan Naeem who would eventually for a hard hitting 82, containing 12 fours and 2 sixes. After his departure Paul Fidler (25) and captain Duane Smith (43*) took up the charge and they came within a whisker of pulling of an incredible chase. At the end of their 50 overs, they would finish on 235-9, just 4 runs short of their opponents.
A performance full of promise, 4 "top-10" performances and 19-league points is a good consolation and that first win won't be far away!
