Kings Langley Cricket Club 2nd XI v Hatfield & Crusaders II on Sat 20 Jul 2019 at 1.00
Kings Langley Cricket Club Won by 9 runs

Match report Kings Langley 2nd XI beat, yes - you did read that right, BEAT Hatifeld & Crusaders II by 9 runs as they claimed their first league win since 2017!
In very wet conditions, the start was delay by just over an hour and the match reduced to 40 overs per sides, and Hatfield & Crusaders took the shock decision of bowling first upon winning the toss.
Kings lost Hijaz (0) in the 1st over but then some dogged resistance from Duane Smith (11) and Russ Knights (21) settled the nerves and largely weathered the storm of the opening bowlers. It was slow going and the score 42-3 at the halfway point, but with Andrew Colquhoun at the crease there were reasons to be positive - and he would eventually be dismissed as the top scorer with 40. The support of the tail was crucial in the end though as from 58-6, Kings stuttered their way to 102-8 from their full allocation of overs.
It was always going to be a tough target to defend, and with only 10 players it always felt like there were gaps in the field, but the bowlers put in a stirling effort knowing wickets would build pressure. Ashil Raniga blew away the top order claiming the first 4 wickets and would finish with figures of 4-26. He was well supported by Hijaz with the new ball who was unlucky to end wicketless. From 30-4, Hatfield looked like rebuilding with a patient partnership and as a crazy 10 minute spell with 3 dropped catches came to an end, they had reached 64-4 by drinks. This proved to be a turning point, as Duane Smith (who had been the victim of 2 drops) struck with the very first ball after drinks before claiming 3 wickets in the over, taking the sensible option of only relying on 'bowled' and 'LBW'. Smith would finish with figures of 3-26. Returning captain, Rich Davis, then struck in the next over to leave them 8 down and, whilst target was still being gently whittled down, he struck twice more to finish with 3-13.
Hatfield & Crusaders were bowled out for 93 in the 28th over, as Kings Langley's players were left trying to remember how to react when you've won!
