Kings Langley Cricket Club 2nd XI v Allenburys & County Hall II on Sat 17 Aug 2019 at 1.00
Kings Langley Cricket Club Lost by 7 wickets
Match report
Kings Langley 2nd XI fell to a 7 wicket defeat and confirmed their bottom-of-the-league status for 2019 - but it was a hard fought performance on The Common.
Having been asked to bat, Kings Langley were soon in trouble at 2-2 as Davis and Fidler fell for ducks. Min Patel (10) and Andrew Colquhoun (21) then set about digging in to stabilise the innings and see of the opening bowlers as they put on a dogged stand of 35 for the 3rd wicket. The fall of Colquhoun brought young Joe Forster to the crease and he would bat the remainder of the innings to secure a well earned and unbeaten. He was well supported by the tail and although not many runs were scored off the bat, the fact that a 5th and 6th bowler were required led to a number of wides and byes from some wayward bowling late on. The team would eventually finish on 128-9 from their 50 overs, with batting the full compliment of overs an achievement in itself in the context of the season.
With a low total to defend, early wickets were always going to be essential and when Ashil Raniga (1-12) struck in the first over the home side were full of hope but it soon started to ebb away as the second wicket partnership grew. It would be David Peters who would be the next to strike and he finished with a well earned 2-20, but Allenburys & County Hall were already in sight of their target and claimed a 7-wicket victory in just the 23rd over.
The 5 league points were few enough to ensure that the 2nd team will indeed finish bottom of the league this season, regardless of the outcome of the final 3 games but plenty of reasons to be positive looking ahead to next season.
