Match report Kings Langley 3rd XI came within a whisker of securing a first win of the season but fell 4 runs short in a dramatic finale against Northwood IV.
Having won the toss and chosen to field, Kings had plenty to celebrate at tea after restricting the visitors to 178-9 in their 40 over allocation. Russ Knights (2-30), Tony Thompson (2-26) and Tom Templeton all claimed 2 wickets apiece, the latter particularly miserly with figures of 8-3-7-2. Doug Hargrove (1-29), David Peters (1-46) and Ben Templeton (1-26) were the other wicket takers with Peters and Templeton claiming their first competitive, senior wickets for the club.
in reply, Dave Barton (24) and Warwick Smith (56) got the reply of to a solid start and hopes of victory were high. Smith, who scored the club's 5th league half-century of the season hit 7 fours and 2 sixes in his innings. He was also well supported by Ben Templeton who showed his promise for the future with 27 runs to cap off an impressive all-round performance. Unfortunately beyond that no batsman could reach double figures and as the number of overs reduced and wickets continued to fall, the team would eventually be all out for 174 in the final over of the innings.
A frustrating results but plenty of positives and promise to report... not least the fact that first time since the 8th May we had a team available at the same time as the opposition!
