The 4th XI were facing tough opponents on The Steiner in the shape of Studham 1st XI – who have joined the league this year. Batting first, we worked hard to score 180-6 in 40 overs – Tom Templeton securing himself a 2nd half century of the season. He top scored with 61 – Jack Middleton and Gregg Anscomb scored 20 apiece.
It was likely to be a tough total to defend on The Steiner and in truth an opening stand of 122 did the damage as they raced out of the blocks. Once a wicket did fall, others followed and it threatened to build a little pressure on the chase but it wasn’t to be. They would reach their target in the 26th over for the loss of 6 wickets to claim victory by 4 wickets. It was great to see Matt Owens back in the wickets as he continues his comeback from injury. He led the way with 4-28 , while Gregg Anscomb added to wickets to his contribution with the bat.
