The 3rd XI continued their perfect start to the season with a tense 3-wicket victory against Northwood 5th XI.
Their dominance with the ball continues as they fielded first and dismissed Northwood for just 107 in 28.5 overs. Jamie Calvin picked up 2-34 as he opened the bowling, new-joiner Richard Traxon secured 2-25 on debut and young Joseph T, promoted from the 4s for the first time excelled with 3-14 from 5 overs. Martin Henderson and Terry Dixon combined to finish the job with 1-5 and 2-5 respectively.
In the chase, Kings got off to a strong start with Henderson (11) and Balinder Walia (29) putting on 47 for the first wicket. If we impart the knowledge that Walia was top-scorer, it may hint at some of the trouble that was to follow as the remaining 61 runs proved hard to get.
A regular loss of wickets saw Kings Langley reduced to 67-6, bringing Danny Knights and Terry Dixon together at the crease. They steadied the ship and battled hard as they combined to add 32 invaluable runs before Terry was dismissed for 13 from 36 balls. Joseph T came to the crease but he wasn’t to be needed as Danny decided to finish the job. He finished unbeaten with an outstanding 28 runs – the number of runs not doing justice to the value of them in terms of securing victory. The target was reached in the 29th over with 3 wickets in hand.
