Match Reports: Saturday 24th August

25 Aug 2019

Wow, what a match!

It took the nerve of a high class all-rounder and the batting talents of an unproven slow bowler...

It went down to the wire with the risk that defeat could cast a shadow over the whole summer...

Yes, that's right... the 1st XI only went and beat top of the league Preston in a one-wicket thriller!

An incredible spell from Ricky Mohammed who claimed 3-3 from 10 overs, 3 wickets for Ben Joyce, a half century for Harry Sambrook and a crucial 44 from Liberty Maher set the victory up, before number 11 Duane Smith held his nerve to finish on the greatest 1 not out in recent cricketing history (until Jack Leach bloomin went and stole his thunder today!)

The victory and the accompanying 30 points mean that the 1st XI are out of the relegation zone - and it is possible that a win against bottom of the league Knebworth Park next Saturday could guarantee safety.

The 2nd XI had a tougher day at the office as they succumbed to a 10 wicket defeat at Berkhamsted where Tom Templeton starred with the bat, finishing unbeaten on 47 in a total of 98 all out.

A more detailed set of match reports are attached, as are the summary match score photos.

I'm still trying to track down the full details from last week's Harpenden game... once I do I will share a proper Fantasy League update, as well as the Top 10 lists.

A note to players... please do update your availability.  We will definitely be able to put 2 teams out this week but we are in the vicinity of 3 teams... if we know we have enough we can try to organise a friendly!

Enjoy your Bank Holiday Monday and have a good week.

Thanks

Rich
